Project Overview
The centrally located Kendall/MIT MBTA Red Line stop services a multitude of Massachusetts commuters and students, living, working, or studying in Kendall Square. Construction on the Outbound station will include significant improvements to the existing headhouse infrastructure, as well as a new, standalone headhouse topped with a publicly accessible landscaped patio. A supplemental elevator will provide a connection to the platform level, street level, and patio level. The rooftop patio will have direct connections to the Urban Park Porch and stairwell to Urban Park roof garden. Further enhancements to the Outbound headhouse include street level windows and increased lighting to ensure public safety.
As of June 10, 2024, access to the Outbound Redline station will be through a temporary tunnel in 325 Main Street. Please follow signage for accessing the platforms for trains to Alewife. Kiosks to purchase fare will not be impacted by the new access route. On your way to your platform, be sure to check out the temporary art exhibit by Ligia Bouton, “25 Variable Stars: a temporary monument for Henrietta Swan Leavitt” on display in the tunnel.
The project is currently undergoing final inspections and is anticipated to open in mid-2026.
